How to Use Proficy Machine Edition for Industrial Automation
Proficy Machine Edition is a software suite that enables you to design, configure, program, monitor and troubleshoot industrial automation systems. It supports a range of GE Digital products, such as PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, MES, Historian and more. In this article, we will show you how to get started with Proficy Machine Edition and how to use some of its features.
Creating a Project
To create a new project in Proficy Machine Edition, follow these steps:
Launch Proficy Machine Edition from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.
Select File > New Project from the menu bar.
Enter a name and a description for your project and click OK.
Select the target device type and model from the Device Catalog window and click OK.
A new project window will open with a default configuration for your device.
Adding Devices
You can add more devices to your project by using the Device Navigator pane on the left side of the window. To add a device, follow these steps:
Right-click on the Devices folder and select Add Device.
Select the device type and model from the Device Catalog window and click OK.
Enter a name and an address for your device and click OK.
The new device will appear under the Devices folder in the Device Navigator pane.
Programming Logic
You can program logic for your devices using various languages, such as Ladder Diagram (LD), Function Block Diagram (FBD), Structured Text (ST) and Sequential Function Chart (SFC). To program logic, follow these steps:
Select the device you want to program from the Device Navigator pane.
Right-click on the Logic folder and select Add Logic.
Select the language you want to use from the Language Selection window and click OK.
A new logic window will open with a blank editor for your chosen language.
You can use the toolbar, the toolbox and the instruction palette to create your logic.
You can also use the Variables pane on the right side of the window to define and edit variables for your logic.
Downloading and Uploading Logic
You can download your logic to your device or upload your logic from your device using the Online Commands toolbar. To download or upload logic, follow these steps:
Connect your device to your computer using an appropriate cable or network connection.
Select the device you want to download or upload logic from or to from the Device Navigator pane.
Click on the Connect button on the Online Commands toolbar to establish communication with your device.
Click on the Download button or the Upload button on the Online Commands toolbar to transfer your logic between your computer and your device.
A progress window will show you the status of the download or upload operation.
Troubleshooting Devices
You can troubleshoot your devices using various tools, such as Monitor Mode, Force Mode, Breakpoints and Watch Window. To troubleshoot devices, follow these steps:
Select the device you want to troubleshoot from the Device Navigator pane.
Click on the Connect button on the Online Commands toolbar to establish communication with your device.
Click on the Monitor Mode button on the Online Commands toolbar to view the current values of your variables and instructions in your logic window.
You can also click on the Force Mode button on the Online Commands toolbar to manually change the values of your variables and instructions in your logic window.
You can also set breakpoints in your logic by right-clicking on an instruction or a line of code and selecting Toggle Breakpoint. This will pause the execution of your logic at that point when you run it in Debug Mode.
You can also use the Watch Window pane on the bottom of the window to add variables or expressions that you want to monitor during debugging. You can right-click on a variable or an expression in your logic window and select Add Watch to add it 248dff8e21
